Norwich City are looking for a reaction as they open their home account in the Championship this afternoon against Blackburn Rovers at Carrow Road.

The Canaries were comfortably beaten by Oxford United last weekend in an underpar performance that was overshadowed by Jonathan Rowe's decision to withdraw from the matchday squad on the morning of the game amid bids from Marseille.

Norwich have subsequently beaten League One side Stevenage in the first round of the Carabao Cup to restore some enthusiasm and Johannes Hoff Thorup will be hoping to see further progress against Blackburn this afternoon.

Rowe isn't expected to be under consideration again for this match, with City also suffering a double blow after losing midfielders Jacob Sorensen (foot) and Christian Fassnacht (ankle) to injury. They were both seen in protective boots at Carrow Road in midweek.

Ashley Barnes remains sidelined, whilst City are light in striking areas after Adam Idah completed a permanent move to Celtic in a deal that could rise to £9.5m.

Thorup is boosted by the news of Jose Cordoba and Ben Chrisene returning for this clash, although the Panamanian international isn't expected to be in a position to start the contest.

Blackburn are dealing with the loss of key striker Sammie Szmodics, who completed a £10m move to Ipswich Town on the eve of this fixture.

They have started the campaign in rich goal-scoring form, netting 10 times in their opening two competitive matches.

Otherwise, John Eustace boasts a fully fit squad heading to Norfolk, including the returning Danny Batth, who joined Rovers after being released by the Canaries at the end of last season.

Norwich are winless in their last three home matches against Blackburn, who were the last side to record an away win at Carrow Road back in November 2023.

City are hoping to avoid losing their opening two fixtures in the second tier for the first time this century this afternoon. Mike Walker's class of 1997/98 were the last Canaries side to start the campaign with consecutive defeats.
