Norwich City midfielder Marcelino Nunez made a late substitute appearance as his Chile side were beaten at the death by Argentina.
Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez scored in the 88th minute to seal an important victory for La Albiceleste, securing their qualification from the Copa America group stage.
Chile now need to win their final group game against Canada to stand any chance of making the quarter-finals, having failed to beat Peru in their tournament opener.
Nunez was introduced 12 minutes before the winner, replacing Eric Pulgar in midfield. He was initially dropped to the bench after starting in that Peru draw, but earned his 27th cap nonetheless.
The 24-year-old has been at the centre of a transfer speculation storm in recent weeks, with the president of Trabzonspor confirming talks over Nunez after a bid was rejected by the Canaries.
The Turkish side remain hopeful a deal can be reached, but their current valuation is far from a price Norwich would consider accepting.
