Gabby Sara will not leave Norwich City for less than €20m (£17m) this transfer window, amid reported interest from Serie A Roma.

The Canaries' influential attacking midfielder has been touted with the Romans since the end of a season where he produced 25 goal contributions in 48 matches.

Now Brazilian-based sports journalist, Andre Hernan, claimed late on Tuesday night City have made their stance clear to potential suitors.

Hernan tweeted to his 333,000 followers: “Roma in Italy enters the fight for Gabriel Sara, ex-Sao Paulo. Norwich in England does not open talks for less than 20 million Euros. It will be very difficult to keep the player in this window.”

Sara, along with England Under-21 international Jon Rowe and US forward Josh Sargent are viewed as the Canaries most saleable assets this summer.

But Adam Idah and Marcelino Nunez have also attracted firm interest from Scotland and Turkey respectively.

Multiple Italian media outlets had reported recently-appointed Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, along with manager Daniele De Rossi, have identified Sara as a target.

Roma finished two points ahead of city rivals, Lazio, in sixth spot last season in Serie A, but a distant 31 points behind champions Inter.

De Rossi signed a contract extension with Roma, that was announced earlier on Tuesday, which will keep him at the club until 2027. He replaced Jose Mourinho last season and guided Roma to a top six league finish and the semi-finals of the Europa League.

City's 25-year-old Brazilian is under contract at Carrow Road until 2026, with a further one year club option, after moving from Sao Paulo in 2022 for an initial £6m, plus add ons. His former club is reportedly entitled to a 10pc sell on from any prospective Norwich exit.

Sporting director, Ben Knapper, reiterated at the official unveiling of new head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup, players sales were likely this summer.

“There's always pressure on us here because that's our model. Whether we have to, or we don't, we want to and that's what we define as success as well,” he said. “Of course we always want to build a team that can win games and get promotion, and that's always going to be the ambition, but as well as doing that in order to be sustainable we have to try.

"So we put pressure on ourselves to do that. Every summer is no different in that respect.

“That's kind of where we are and lots of conversations on-going at the minute. But it's so important that Johannes gets that chance to look at the squad and evaluate as well. And we'll be speaking continually all the way through the window.”

Sara is due to return to Colney later this week, with the rest of the Canaries’ non-international contingent, for pre-season testing ahead of the countdown to the new Championship season on the weekend of August 10.
