The next stop in Jose Cordoba's Copa America with Panama is a clash against new Norwich City teammate Josh Sargent after defeat to Uruguay.
Cordoba was on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat to Marcelo Bielsa's side on Sunday evening in Miami.
Goals from Maximiliano Araujo, Liverpool's Darwin Nunez and Matias Vina saw Uruguay lead 3-0 heading into stoppage time before Michael Amir Murillo netted a late consolation for Panama.
Cordoba played the entire 90 minutes and was deployed centrally in a back-five formation designed to contain Uruguay's firepower.
Reflecting on the game post-match, the new Norwich signing believes there were positives to extract from their approach in the second half despite the comfortable defeat to one of the tournament's favourites.
"In the second half, we came out on the right foot," Cordoba told Deportes RPC in the mixed zone. "We changed practically everything and played more football, which is what we had been doing and what we wanted."
Panama will now face USA on Thursday evening (UK time), knowing a result will be required to boost their chances of moving to the knockout stages of the competition.
Cordoba is expecting another tough test for his nation and could tussle with new Norwich colleague Sargent should he feature for the hosts.
"I think the next one will be a high-level match against USA," City's new defender added. "We have to prepare based on that: it will be very demanding, and try to start that match in the best way,"
Sargent was an unused substitute for the US in their Copa America opener against Bolivia. Goals from Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun saw them emerge as 2-0 victors.
The City striker, who is still battling with fitness after struggling with a foot injury, was described as 'nagging' by USA boss Gregg Berhalter in the lead-up to the tournament.
Norwich's medical team have been in consistent dialogue with their USMNT counterparts as observations over his fitness continue. He is one of City's key assets that has been linked with a move away this summer.
Sargent suffered a serious ankle ligament injury last August that kept him sidelined for four months during City's Championship campaign before scoring 13 in 22 matches to fire the Canaries into the play-offs.
Marcelino Nunez was replaced during the closing stages of Chile's goalless draw with Peru on Saturday.
