Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand is proud of the progress coaches in the country are making after Johannes Hoff Thorup's appointment as Norwich City's head coach.

Thorup was confirmed as David Wagner's successor last week in a move that saw him swap Superliga football with Nordsjaelland for the Championship.

The 35-year-old emerged as the frontrunner after City held talks with Will Still and Pascal Jansen. Thorup's attitude to young players and playing style made him Ben Knapper's prime target to lead the new era at Carrow Road.

Thorup has been joined in Norfolk but experienced assistant Glen Riddersholm, who has been a head coach in Denmark and Sweden as well as working at Genk in Belgium.

The pair will be tasked with altering the playing style, reconnecting the academy to the first team whilst improving results on the pitch. They will begin work at Colney later this month with the players to return for testing on June 28.

Hjulmand, who is tasked with overcoming England in the Euros later this month, was previously manager at Nordsjaelland over two spells between 2011/14 and 2016/19 before becoming national team boss.

Asked about the influx of Danish coaches being handed opportunities abroad after Thorup was unveiled at City, Hjulmand shared his delight and believes it is a compliment to the structure of football in the country.

"I'm really happy about that. I think the Danish coaches are doing excellent out there," Hjulmand told Bold.

"I think we have reached a time when more and more ownerships find out that management is a team game and that you need people who can work together and put teams together. It is about being able to see things as a systemic thing, and that benefits us in Denmark.

"We understand the team and putting together teams. All the coaches out there have worked hard for it and are super curious to get better. I think the whole gang [to go abroad] are talented, so it's very, very gratifying.

"One thing also takes the other and creates the way for others and so on. There is a lot of talent and quality out there, and that is very pleasing."
