Norwich City new boy Jose Cordoba can't wait to make his Copa America debut with Panama.

The centre-back flew to the UK to seal a move to the Canaries from Bulgarian side Levski Sofia earlier this month, but quickly returned to Central America for two friendlies before the tournament kicks off in the United States.

He played the first of those a week ago when Los Canaleros beat Montserrat 3-1, and is expected to feature again when they face Paraguay overnight.

Panama's first group stage game takes place in the early hours of next Monday (UK) against Uruguay, before a potential first meeting for Cordoba with new team-mate Josh Sargent and the USA three days later.

The 23-year-old is steeped in anticipation for his first Copa America, having made his international debut in March 2022.

"It's a dream of every young player," he told official club channels of the tournament. "First of all, you play in the national team and then you have a chance to play in this competition.

"This is very important for me, and because I am younger I can take a lot of experience from this. I cannot wait to give my best for my country, and then come back and join the team (Norwich)."
