Johannes Hoff Thorup has good vibes about working for the first time with new assistant head coach Glen Riddersholm to help drive Norwich City’s Championship charge.

The Danish duo have never previously crossed paths in a professional capacity, but Thorup feels the experienced Riddersholm is a perfect foil to launch his Carrow Road era.

City's squad, minus their international contingent, are scheduled to meet up with the new coaching duo for the first time when they return for pre-season testing at the end of the month.

“Norwich thought it was important that I get someone with me who I know can help drive the process with me,” he said. “I sat down with my advisors to talk about which topics might be relevant.

“Glen's name quickly popped up as someone who really has experience of being able to work with an academy and a first team; where he has helped to create a clear connection between the two things.

“He has also previously been abroad, so there are many things that make me think it is a very good choice, because he is both in a human and professional context someone who can support me in the best possible way.”

Riddersholm won a Danish league title with FC Midtjylland and was in charge at Swedish top flight club IFK Norrköping last season. Thorup, speaking to Danish publication Bold, is confident the 52-year-old will embrace a number two role.

“I sat down with Glen and told him about the project and his role. He has given me no reason at all to believe anything else,” said Thorup. “He was hugely interested, and he thinks it was a wildly exciting project.

“As I know him, he is also driven much more by the quality of the project than prestige in the form of a title, and this was also confirmed when I spoke to him. I'm not nervous about it in any way and I'm getting a man in who's willing to work really hard, and there's going to be plenty to deal with.

“I know him as hard-working and extremely skilled, so I am completely safe about that.”

Norwich’s Championship fixtures are due to be released on June 26, with the countdown then underway to the opening weekend on August 10.
