League One Stevenage still harbour ambitions of a Carabao Cup upset against Norwich City, despite plans to ring the changes at Carrow Road.
Alex Revell’s side head to Norfolk on the back of a 1-0 opening day defeat of Shrewsbury, starting their league campaign positively in contrast to the Canaries.
The 41-year-old expects to shuffle his pack ahead of what will be a quick turnaround, with an opportunity to include those who missed out in League One.
"We'll watch the game against Oxford and then we'll plan, but I think a big thing for us is freshness and energy," he said. "Also, and I've spoken about it a lot, we have real competition for places.
"It was hard to make a decision [on the opening day] for the team. Ultimately it seems that it was the right decision, because we won, but there were a lot of people there who came onto the pitch and influenced it.
"They deserve an opportunity to show what they've got."
But The Boro are still hopeful of piling the misery on their hosts, who are reeling from a 2-0 loss to newly-promoted Oxford United on Saturday.
Revell says regular changes can actually be a recipe for success in the long term, as he found when he was assistant to Steve Evans in Stevenage's League Two promotion of 2023.
"I always go back to it," he continued, speaking to official club channels. "When we had our successful year we did rotate, we allowed freshness because we had such a good squad.
"We want to try and replicate that as best we can, but we also want to go there, put on a performance and win."
